Actively Seeking Sponsorship
So the HSE have refused our application and subsequent appeal to have Robert assessed and treated in the UK on the basis that the treatment required is available in Ireland.
Robert is on the waiting list for SMART assessment at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Rochestown Avenue. As yet, we have no date for his admission but we understand that it should be before the end of August.
However, that will be at most a three-month placement: our research strongly indicates that Robert will need longer than that to maximise his potential for improvement.
This fact has decided me in the next phase of my plan for his recovery, and that is to raise enough money privately to continue his rehab after the NRH at the Oxford Centre for Enablement or, if the funds don’t stretch to that, another UK facility experienced in what is called ‘long-term long-duration’, or ‘slow-stream’ rehab. There is nowhere in the Republic of Ireland where he can get this treatment that we know of. Northern Ireland and the UK have centres for LTLT/SS rehabilitation aplenty but Robert cannot avail of them without adequate funding.
So I have set up the following: http://www.sponsor.ie/charity/robertbolton/
I would be very grateful if you could forward it to anyone that you think may be influential, able to help, or in any way interested in our situation. There may be an individual or company out there with philanthropic tendencies, tax-deductable cash, Lotto winnings or deep generous pockets that I can’t reach without your help.
It’s a big ask, but obviously I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t so important. The fact that you’re reading this means you’re a someone who’s been supporting us already in one way or another and believe me, we appreciate it. Please just give it one more little push for us. Please.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
