Football Marathon for Robert/Philly McGuinness Cup

Our nephew Eddie Bolton has organised a Charity Football Marathon, which is being held at The Spawell Complex, Wellington Lane, Templeogue, Dublin 6W: “As I’ve mentioned before, this is to raise funds for the continued treatment for my Uncle Robert. The aim is to raise €500 which will then be matched by my work Certus.

The idea is to have a 4-hour marathon between 14 of us, 5 a side with two subs each who can come on and off as they feel like to have a breather. There will be a new match every hour.

The final hour is where anyone who wants to come and support us can stick on their gear and have a kick about for a bit of fun. If you don’t feel like playing but just want to have a gander and laugh at us sweaty lot then please do come down. I’ll have a bucket for anyone that can spare a few euro to help with the cause.

As I’m sure you’ve all gathered this means an awful lot to me and my family and the support you’ve shown so far has been amazing.

So please do come down and support us again and if you feel like it throw on your shorts and try and hack down anyone in your path.”

Eddie later added: the plan is to have a different match every hour with the same 14 guys playing for the first four hours. The team who wins by the most in the four matches will get the “championship”. Then we can have a breather by playing another hour with people with fresh legs….

So we’re going to have sandwiches for everyone from star chefs, or mams as they like to be called. The prizes will for best/worst players will be apt, believe me.

Apparently there’ll be prizes on the day too and it sounds like great fun. Please come down and say hello. The match takes place on Sunday, November 11, 2012 ~ 12:00pm until 5:00pm

GREAT RESULT FROM OUR SLIGO & LEITRIM/ROSCOMMON FOOTBALLERS! ~ The Philly McGuinness Cup Football Match played on Friday the 19th of October raised quite a sum for Robert’s rehab fund. We thank everyone who took part, and congratulations to the triumphant Sligo team and our friend David. Well done.
